Charges
for Healthcare Services from the
National Health Service in the UK
|
Hospital
If you are a Non British national you can expect free emergency
ambulance and initial hospital care. Extended care will incur
local Healthcare and Hospital Trust fees unless there is a
reciprocal agreement between your country and Britain. If
there is such an agreement then treatment is free.
General
Medical and Dental Practioners
GP's
are self employed. Some General Medical Practitioners may
treat you as a private patient and fee the treatment. Others
will not charge ( and will treat you free as a "Temporary
Resident"). Medicine is not free. If you are being treated
as a private patient , the pharmacy will charge the actual
cost of the medicine. If you are a UK resident, a Temporary
resident or are resident in a country with a reciprocal healthcare
agreement with the UK, you will have to pay normal nominal
drugs prescription charges.
Insurance
You
should check whether there is a reciprocal agreement for healthcare
& dental treatment between Britain and your country and
ensure you have appropriate insurance to cover emergencies
costs.
