Self
Drive Day Tour of Stirling and The Trossachs
Take
the A720 (North) and follow the signs for the M9.
Leave
the M9 at junction 3 on to A803 and visit Linlithgow
Palace - birth place of Mary Queen of Scots. The Palace
was burnt to the ground while occupied by Oliver Cromwell
- not in battle - but by the misuse of tobacco that
had just been introduced to Britain.
Continue
on the A803 to Falkirk and visit The Falkirk Wheel that
lifts canal barges from one level to another.
Return
to the A803 and join the M9 at junction 6 exit at junction
9 and visit Stirling Castle and The Wallace Monument.
From
Stirling take the A84 to Callander where "Doctor
Finlay's Case Book" was filmed. Visit the Falls
of Leny at the bottom of Ben Ledi (878m).
Just
outside Callander turn Left on to A821 passing Loch
Venacher and on to Loch Katrine. This is the heart of
the Trossachs. Take a Paddle Ship Cruise up the loch
Travel
through Queen Elizabeth Forest Park to Aberfoyle.
From
Aberfoyle take A873 then on to the A84. Visit Blair
Drummond Safari Park.
Back
on to the M9 then A720 and back to Midlothian.
