OLDEST
CONTINUOUSLY PLAYED GOLF COURSE IN THE WORLD
Why not play golf at the oldest continuously played
golf course in the world (from 1672)- Musselburgh Links
- The Old Golf Course (www.musselburgholdlinks.co.uk).
James VI and Mary Queen of Scots and did! You can get
that wee exra thrill by playing on this particular course.
James VI and Mary Queen of Scots and did! Gems guests
have often opted for a half day at the old course and
invariably return to the guest house full of thejoys
of the day and quite clear about which golfing buffs
they are going to tell.
It has 9 holes. The Open Championship was played here
6 times between 1874 and 1891 in rotation with St. Andrews
and Prestwick. It was also the venue for the first ever
lady golfers competition in 1811. It does not cost much
and there is even a bar half way round the course. You
can hire hickory or modern clubs.

Fairies
O' Carlops & Icelandic Horse Pentland Hills Trecking
Centre
Take
a ride through beautiful scenery on one of these magnificent
horses. You don't need to be an accomplished horse rider
to enjoy the off-road treks as there are experts on
hand to guide every step of the way. This attraction
can be enjoyed by children and adults alike.
Recent
evidence of the Fairies O'Carlops came in 1997. A mobile
telephone mast was erected at
Carlops in the bonnyl and wild Midlothian countryside.
Locals were unhappy about the unsightly mast. They appealed
to the fairies and one dark night the nasty mast was
dismantled.
The national TV stations got hold of the story. The
investigating reporters found that the villagers were
united in their conviction that it was the work O' the
fairies, ever keen as they are to help the Carlops "muggles".
The local people also suggested that the Carlops Fairies
had a repuation for perseverance and persistance. It
is good to know that the Carlops Fairies have kept the
mast away ever since...
